Case Study - MassComm Wizard
Challenges
I was tasked with giving a much-needed makeover to a dated visual experience and fine-tuning key features to make things simpler and smoother for our users.
These changes would not only bring a breath of fresh air to the residents, but also make their lives easier by letting them receive communications just the way they like it (and in line with all the fancy legal stuff).
Of equal priority were our associates who would no longer have to wrestle with a clunky system—instead, they’d be enjoying the thrill of higher success rates with their outbound communications.
“Property listings felt overwhelming and cluttered”
“Jumping from screen to screen to edit data within a session felt disjointed”
"Difficult to back track to make edits"
Solutions
Drawing upon our access to a dedicated team of 40 associates actively utilizing the incumbent system, we surveyed and harnessed their feedback to visualize a comprehensive overhaul of the user experience. By carefully addressing the most frequent concerns, I began noting key pain points, gradually using this data to realize an improved, seamless and minimalistic interface.
This encompassed optimizing the management of diverse communication types and channels through a unified view, integrating anticipated batch success indicators and distribution rate estimates, and expanding the repertoire of communication channels to include SMS alongside email. Through these enhancements, I aimed to deliver an elevated user experience that maximized efficiency, user satisfaction, and communication effectiveness.
Wire framing
Armed with comprehensive interview data and an extensive requirements document, I began developing rapid prototypes using Sketch. By meticulously translating the gathered insights and requirements, I crafted a series of screen designs that presented a transformative user interface.
Central to this redesign was a deliberate emphasis on compactness and simplicity, resulting in an interface that prioritized optimal usability and efficiency. By aligning my vision with both the development team and stakeholders, this cohesive approach ensured seamless collaboration and facilitated a shared understanding of the design direction.
Component Function
& Design System
I embarked on the design process with the aim of creating a product that seamlessly integrated multiple data access points. A carefully curated color palette derivative was implemented to alleviate potential user stress while handling significant volumes of data.
Furthermore, modal interactions and popup input components were strategically leveraged to reduce screen clutter and provide access to input screens only when needed. This kept clear emphasis on the core objectives of each screen, ensuring a focused and intuitive user experience. Given the wizard-type nature of the application, a deliberate emphasis was placed on cultivating a condensed, app-like experience to optimize user engagement and efficiency.
